Human Emulation, Education, and Evaluation Lab
for Patient Safety and Professional Study
  OVERVIEW
The Department of Anesthesiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital has the distinction of being the first “Beta” test site and the first medical center in the New York metropolitan tri-state area to possess a human patient simulator. METI’s Human Patient Simulator is a full-scale patient mannequin with palpable pulses, breath, and heart sounds that can physiologically respond to a variety of intravenous and inhaled anesthetic drugs through via the interaction of sophisticated sensors and robust cardiovascular and pulmonary computer-driven modeling.

Housed within a dedicated educational laboratory of operating rooms equipped with standard patient monitoring and anesthesia equipment, healthcare providers from a variety of disciplines and educational levels are able to utilize this latest technology in human simulation to discover and learn basic and advanced principles of physiology, pharmacology, and anesthesiology. The simulator environment is used to teach and practice the management of complex perioperative medical events and emergencies to both house staff and attending physicians. Our faculty has extensive experience in simulator-based teaching and competency assessments are recognized as innovators and leaders in the field of health-care simulation and are involved in a variety of diverse simulator projects. We have been invited to participate and lead simulation related events throughout the country and have mentored physicians who have gone on to become simulator leaders in other renowned institutions. Our educators and program have been highlighted in articles in the New York Times, USA Today, CNN, and Forbe's.
