  Clinical Anesthesia ReEntry (CARE) Program
Our faculty are expert in simulation-based retraining and have helped many anesthesiologists resume a safe and satisfying career in a confidential and respectful environment. For those of you whose clinical competency has lapsed due to a variety of reasons including limited scope of practice or a prolonged absence from clinical activities and who wish to resume clinical practice or pursue a broader scope of practice, our program of retraining using multi-modality simulation allows the clinician to update their skills while at the same time maintaining patient safety. New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct (OPMC) has accepted our standardized six-week course of simulation and operating room observation for physicians with prolonged clinical abstinence seeking state licensure. We also offer custom designed mini-courses to meet the needs of the individual practitioner.

Our faculty have conducted assessments for private medical institutions, state medical licensing bodies, and independent assessment entities and self-referred independent physicians. Using multimodality simulation including high fidelity mannequin based simulators, virtual reality equipment, and standardized patients and OR personnel, participants can be evaluated in terms of the six core competencies as identified by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) The six domains of competences include; patient care, medical knowledge, systems-based practice, practice based learning and improvement, professionalism and interpersonal skills and communication. Other domains of competence that can be evaluated in our program include clinical judgment, technical skills, team leadership skills, documentation and record keeping.

Each assessment is individually designed and conducted with respect and privacy. Graduates of our simulation-based retraining program have received credentialing and clinical appointments at local academic centers in order to complete their retraining via supervised clinical experiences. If you or your institution is in need of a simulation-based retraining program please contact us and we would be happy to discuss our program with you in further detail.
